The North Carolina Zoo
Located in Asheboro, the North Carolina Zoo is the largest natural habitat zoo in the world. Spend the entire day or just a few hours exploring more than 500 acres with 1,700 animals and over 200 species including elephants, lions, and adorable yet fierce sand cats. National Geographic has even filmed Secrets of the Zoo here.

The Surrounding Area
After your visit, continue your experience by exploring Downtown Asheboro and the surrounding area. Just a short drive from the zoo, downtown offers a walkable mix of local shops, cafés, breweries, and restaurants, perfect for relaxing after a day outdoors. Take time to browse unique boutiques, enjoy a craft beer, or experience authentic North Carolina barbecue.
Seagrove: The Pottery Capital of the USA
Explore this creative community of around 100 working potters and take home the ultimate North Carolina souvenir. See pottery made and visit studios and workshops. Start your journey at the North Carolina Pottery Center to introduce yourself to our state's pottery tradition and see work from across Seagrove. Pick up a map and visit a few of the 50 pottery shops, studios and galleries open to the public. Have breakfast or lunch at the Seagrove Cafe. Visit The General Wine & Brew for a sip.

Richard Petty & The Petty Museum
Located in Randleman, the Petty Museum celebrates the life and legacy of one of NASCAR’s greatest icons, Richard Petty. Known as “The King,” Petty, and the Petty family career's are brought to life through an impressive collection of race cars, trophies, memorabilia, and personal artifacts that span generations of racing history. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing his record-breaking 200 wins and gain a deeper appreciation for the Petty family’s lasting impact on American motorsports. After your visit, take time to explore the surrounding Randleman area or venture just a short drive to Asheboro for additional dining, shopping, and local experiences.
