Dining
The restaurant scene in Downtown Asheboro is hopping, expect to wait for a table on weekend nights. Cardinal & Pine covered four restaurants for their readers, including Magnolia 23 (famous for its fried chicken, open daily except on Saturdays), Bold Coffee Co., The Taco Loco (you might catch a mariachi band on weekends) and Nannie Mae’s Cafe & Bakery. Southern Living has also covered Magnolia 23 for their amazing food.
New and just around the corner from The Taco Loco is Full Moon Oyster Bar. Two early anchors of Sunset Avenue include The Flying Pig with first-class pizza, subs and salads and Hop’s Bar-B-Q. These two are as popular now as when they first opened.
Woman’s Day featured The Table in a 2019 story. Be sure to try the wonderful Pimento Cheese Croissant. The casual yet elegant menu changes seasonally. It’s open for breakfast and lunch; closed on Sunday. They occasionally open for special events.
The Black Lantern Tea Room and Bakery offers chef-prepared bakery items (always check the daily specials) plus sandwiches, soups and salads. Around the corner, you’ll find Central Bakery, established in 1945. Their Facebook page and exquisite cake photos will have you checking mileage and getting in the car.
More of a steak person? Try Hamilton’s Steakhouse. Another meat-centric “must” is Black Powder Smokehouse with its creative twists on Southern barbecue.
Positano Italian Restaurant invites a sit-down experience with a glass of wine. You’ll find the classics here: pastas, pizzas, mussels and shrimp, veal piccata and more. Brewskie's offers a variety of espresso, craft beer, and wine. They also serve delicious flatbreads, sandwiches, and bakery items. A perfect stop any time of day.
Beer and Spirits
When you’re ready for a cocktail or beer, Downtown Asheboro offers the Zoo City Social District. Stroll and savor your sip…and enjoy seeing our murals, or relax on a bench or on the stage at Bicentennial Park.
Our local brewery is Four Saints Brewing Company. Find events and food truck schedules here. You can also bring food into Four Saints or have it delivered. Owner Joel McCloskey and team are avid boosters of our local downtown–and in favor of having a relaxing sip with friends. You’ll also find some of their beers nod to local traditions. Potter’s Ale honors around 100 working potters in nearby Seagrove, N.C. Several Seagrove potters crafted beer steins to help the brewery raise money for its opening. Today, they auction off the beer steins for charity.
In 2023, Four Saints Brewing Company grabbed retail space next door and opened The Pharmacy. The chic yet refined cocktail bar with dark walls and a touch of plaid decor serves seasonal and classic cocktails and mocktails with locally made snacks and charcuterie boards.
You can find beer and wine on tap at Carolina Tap House and Lumina Wine & Beer. For a nightcap, consider a stop at Leo’s Whiskey Bar. Intimate and cozy, it feels like a speakeasy, although we assure you everything is legal. Cheers to their Old Fashioneds.
