Indoors or out, there’s plenty to explore in Randolph County this summer
August 19th is National Aviation Day, and we have a cool indoor activity that is also educational to commemorate the holiday in Asheboro. The NC Aviation Museum & Hall of Fame is open Wednesday-Sunday from 10am-5pm and showcases a collection of military vehicles, weapons, equipment, uniforms, a flight simulator, and a plane flown by Orville Wright. Visit Seagrove and Other Cool Museums
On August 8th, sample iced tea and baked goods with Seagrove Potters during their summertime Tea with Seagrove Potters. Shop one-of-a-kind pitchers and tumblers to serve traditional Southern iced tea at home. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of this event, participating shops will also have door prize drawings. In addition to the North Carolina Pottery Center in Seagrove, Randolph County is home to a host of other museums you can visit in a tour of history (and air conditioning). Get out your Cowboy Boots and Hats
On August 5th and 19th, head to the Davis Rodeo Ranch in Archdale for Boot Barn Wild West Wednesday. See the top bull riders and champion bulls show off their skills. Gates open at 6pm.
Embrace the Arts
The Mightier than the Sword Awards at Sunset Film Festival bring international films to the big screen at the historic Sunset Theatre August 7-9th.

Take Your Pick of Events at Millstone Creek Orchard
Millstone Creek Orchards has a full slate of events for every taste this month!
Kids love Fruity Pickin’ Storytime, and there are two opportunities in August. The August 3rd session follows an orchard flowers theme, and August 24th is apple cider. Reserve your spot to enjoy storytime, an orchard hayride, and u-pick experience, and take home a floral bouquet or apples.
Brunch at the Cider House is always a hit, with the next one taking place August 9th. Extra special for summer, after brunch, guests are invited to enjoy a Peaches, Petals & Pasture Pals Adventure, featuring a scenic hayride, a baby Highland cow meet-and-greet, and access to the peach orchard for u-pick peaches. Be sure to book a time online for this popular event.
The last Summer Outdoor Vendor Market is August 15th from 9am-2pm. Shop locally crafted jewelry, clothing, bath and body products, home decor, fresh produce and more. Seasonal donuts, playground and picnic areas, and u-pick fruit are also available during the market. Free admission.
Also on August 15th from 6-9pm is the final Sunset Saturday @ the Cider House where you can chill out with live music, lawn games, hayrides, and handcrafted food and drinks leading up to a waterfront sunset. Ages 21+. Tickets available online.

On August 7th and 8th, the Liberty Showcase Theater welcomes Marty Haggard, son of Merle. The Statler Experience, sons and grandsons of the Statler Brothers, headline on August 22nd. Gene Watson rounds out the month on August 29th. Reserve tickets online.

Take in one of the fastest events around this month at Caraway Speedway in Sophia!
August 1st, Crashin Hackett’s Night of Destruction takes the track at 7pm.
On August 8th from 6-11:30pm, it’s 336 Meets time.
August 15th from 8-11pm brings Road to the Crown.
August 29th from 8-11pm is 61st Anniversary Night.

The Sunset Theatre finishes up their family-friendly summer series with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on August 4th, Sonic 3 on August 11th, and Hoppers on August 18th. Enjoy a treat with the kids before they go back to school!
On August 6th at 1pm, the monthly Thrifty Thursday Movie is Secondhand Lions. A $5 ticket includes a small drink and popcorn, and guests 50 and older are free.
