Asheboro, NC -- The Randolph Arts Guild (RAG) will host a semi-advanced portrait illustration course with North Carolina artist and educator, Jim Langer.  Jim is a professor at Greensboro College and will focus on rendering from life.  This multiple session course includes instruction, live models drawing sessions, and a brief history of portraiture.   Attendees are to provide their own paper (minimally 18” on the shortest side), drawing pencils, a lunch, and enthusiasm.  The class meets on Saturdays, March 15, 22, and 29 from 10:30 a.m. -- 2 p.m.  The class costs $150 for RAG members, $165 for non-members.  Payment and completed registration are required for enrollment.  The enrollment deadline is Wednesday, March 5.  This class meets at the Moring Arts Center located at 123 Sunset Avenue in downtwon Asheboro.  For more information regarding this class contact the Randolph Arts Guild at (336) 629-0399.

Jim Langer trained at Boston University under master draughtsman Arthur Polonsky and Jack Kramer.  Jim was awarded the Howard Thurman Scholarship and a Silver Medal by the British Royal Society for outstanding academic and artistic work, particularly in drawing, while at BU.  He earned an MFA at UNCG as a Holderness Fellow.  Jim has taught for 16 years at Greensboro College, in Drawing and Life Drawing, Digital Art, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture and Art History, including an upper-level seminar on "Asian Ink/Western Ink".  His exhibitions include venues inNew England and North Carolina, along with small shows in Lucca, Italy and perfomance art in Arles, France.
Jim lives with his wife and children on the 19th century farm, Hearthstone, outside Asheboro.  Ever the Renaissance man Jim is also active in the Asheboro's RSVP Community Theatre.  He is portraying the role of Boris Kolenkhov, a Russian dance-master in RSVP's upcoming production of Kaufman and Hart's You Can't Take It With You.
