Asheboro, NC - The North Carolina Zoo will participate in World Oceans Day, a new event at the zoo, on Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. until the park closes at 5 p.m. The event will highlight the theme: Together we have the power to protect the oceans!
Visitor activities will include: mural coloring for kids, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the seal underwater viewing area; water activities at the Streamside and Cypress Swamp exhibits, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.; and an animal-painting demonstration by Stacy Lewis, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the North America Plaza.
There will be visitor information stations at the seabird and polar bear exhibits, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., and a seabirds feeding at 11:15 a.m. Additionally, there will be an educational animal encounter at 1:30 p.m. at "The Woods" in the kidZone exhibit.
Visitors can meet and talk to harbor seal keepers at 11:30 a.m., peregrine falcon keepers at 1:30 p.m. and polar bear keepers at 2 p.m.-at the respective exhibits.
There will be an N.C. Zoo reusable-bag give-away, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., at the North America Plaza.
