ASHEBORO, N.C. - Fans of the North Carolina Zoo can soon display their support on their North Carolina auto license plates. A plate design, which states "Support the N.C. Zoo" and features a zebra, is pending approval by the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

The specialty plate's added cost is $30, with $20 coming back to the N.C. Zoo Society.

"Those funds will help the Society provide its on-going support to the N.C. Zoo and its wildlife," said Zoo Society Executive Director Russ Williams. "There is already much interest in purchasing the plate."

The N.C. DMV will take the plate to press when the first 300 applications, with payment, have been submitted.

Plates can be purchased by visiting the Society Web site at www.nczoo.com, by calling the Society offices at 888-244-3736 or by visiting any gift shop at the N.C. Zoo.

The North Carolina Zoological Society is a private non-profit organization that supports the North Carolina Zoo and conservation. The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, William G. Ross Jr., Secretary; Bev Perdue, Governor.
