Asheboro, NC -- Due to ice and snow that remain inside the park after last week's winter storm, the North Carolina Zoo will remain closed to the public on Monday, February 17.

The zoo has been closed since last Wednesday when up to six inches of snow and sleet fell in the Asheboro area. Despite the efforts by zoo staff, walkways and service roads inside the park remain covered in some areas, according to Zoo Deputy Director Mary Joan Pugh. Zoo officials expect the park to reopen on Tuesday.

The public can learn about the zoo's daily operating status by calling the park's toll-free number at 1-800-488-0444 or by visiting the website at

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment & Natural Resources, John E. Skvarla, III, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
