Asheboro, NC - Downtown Asheboro will come alive for an old-fashioned Christmas on Friday evening, December 9 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Downtown Development Committee of the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce is once again sponsoring a downtown street festival on Friday night, December 9 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Christmas on Sunset will take place in downtown Asheboro, along Sunset Avenue and adjoining streets. Attendees will see the variety of products and services offered by downtown merchants. The whole family will enjoy the beautiful Christmas decorations, the newest additions to the outdoor sculpture exhibit, musicians and carolers, carriage rides, nativity scene, model trains, marshmallow roast and hot cider and hot chocolate, as well as walking characters such as Frosty, Rudolph, the Grinch and of course, Santa and his elves.

Christmas on Sunset highlights:
Musicians and carolers on the street provided by the Sunset Brass Ensemble, Asheboro High School Band and Park Street Ensemble, Southwestern Randolph High School Band and Choral Ensemble, Asheboro Community Chorus, Zoopendous Show Chorus of the Sweet Adelines Int., and the Randleman High School Choral Ensemble.

Also the First Presbyterian Church Bells! Angels! will be performing in the Republican Headquarters building on Sunset Avenue, STIX and Twigs Christmas Program in the Sunset Theater and Ashegrove in the Randolph Arts Guild.

Additional highlights include:
• Reading of the Christmas Story followed by Christmas Carol Singing in the Sunset Theater
• Live Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Elves and Santa
• Drawing for the United Way of Randolph County Automobile
• Hay Wagon and Carriages rides through Downtown Asheboro
• A contest for the best Christmas-themed store display
• Kids Crafts
• Model Train Display
• Hot cider & hot chocolate stations
• Marshmallow roasting on Church Street sponsored by the shops in The Mill
