ASHEVILLE, NC - The U.S. Forest Service invites families to celebrate Earth Day (Sunday, April 22) by visiting one of the four national forests in North Carolina.

Encompassing 1.25 million acres, the Nantahala, Pisgah, Uwharrie, and Croatan National Forests feature some of the most breathtaking scenery in the South. The forests feature mountain hardwoods in the western part of the state, as well as piedmont and coastal plain forests with majestic longleaf pines. Each forest type is a unique ecosystem.
