ASHEBORO, NC - U.S. Forest Service officials have lifted the closure order for the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness Area, allowing visitors to the Uwharrie National Forest to again enjoy the wilderness area.

The wilderness area was closed last weekend because of a fire. The fire is 100 percent contained.

Forest visitors are reminded to fully extinguish all campfires before leaving their campsites.
