ASHEBORO, NC - Historic downtown Asheboro will celebrate the holidays with its annual Christmas on Sunset event on Friday, December 10, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m. The Downtown Development Committee of the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce sponsors this popular event celebrating the sights, sounds, and beauty of the Christmas season along Sunset Avenue and its surrounding streets. Downtown merchants will offer a variety of holiday products and shop storefronts will be decked with their finest holiday trimmings for the annual window display contest.
This year's highlights include performances by the Sunset Brass Ensemble; Asheboro and Southwestern Randolph High School Bands; Southwestern Randolph High School and Park Street Ensembles; Salvation Army Band; Asheboro Community Chorus; and the First Baptist Church Bell Choir and Chorus. There will be special appearances by The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and Santa and his elves.
As always, this event offers a live Nativity scene, horse-drawn carriage and hay wagon rides; gingerbread house and kids crafts contests; model train displays; hot chocolate and cider stations; marshmallow roasting at The Mill; and much more! The night will be capped off with the annual United Way of Randolph County drawing to win an automobile.
