ASHEBORO - Four great concerts will be held at the Sunset Theatre located at 234 Sunset Avenue, in downtown Asheboro during the month of May.
The first concert is part of the Gospel Showcase concert series which will be held on Saturday, May 3rd. The featured group will be the Trinity Quartet. This quartet has been together since 1997. This group sings the best that gospel has to offer while delivering their own personal story. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Showtime will be at 7pm. Admission is $5 per person. Tickets are on sale now!
The 2nd concert is part of the Sunset Concert Series which will be held on Monday, May 12th. Doors will open at 6pm. Showtime is 7pm. The featured group will be the United States Air Force Heritage Brass Quintet. This is a Free concert. The Heritage Brass Quintet formed in 1973 presents a blend of music spanning more than 350 years. The quintets repertoire draws from classical selections such as Bach and Handel jazz selections from such artists as Duke Ellington and Antonio Carlos Jobim as well as popular music and patriotic pieces. The quintet's versatility stems from their diverse educational backgrounds and professional experiences. Members have performed with such orchestras as the National Repertory Orchestra, the Woodlands Symphony Orchestra, the Lima Symphony, the Bowling Green Philharmonia, the Orchestra of the Finger Lakes, the Kansas City Symphony, and the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. The quintet members have also performed with many chamber music ensembles including the Summit Brass, the Kansas City Symphony Brass Ensemble, the Blue Lake Wind Quintet, and the faculty brass quintets of: the New Mexico State University and Illinois State University.
The 3rd concert is part of the Friday Night Bluegrass Concert Series and will be held on Friday, May 16th. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Showtime is 7pm. NU-BLU Bluegrass Artists will be the group. Nu-Blu is a band that projects a dynamic new edge while still being grounded in the traditions and fundamentals of bluegrass music. Nu-Blu was formed in the fall of 2003. Their goal is to develop a band that would give the audience a new experience but still stay within the realms of bluegrass. By mixing original material, traditional songs, and pulling in material from outside of bluegrass they have strived to create a unique yet driving sound. Admission is $5. Tickets are on sale now!
The 4th concert is also part of the Sunset Concert Series and will be held on Saturday, May 17th. Doors will open at 6:30pm. Showtime is 7pm. Triad Harmony Express will present 'How the West Was Sung, a Barbershop Harmony' salute featuring songs with the flavor of the old west! Special featured guests will be LET'S SING!. Admission is $10. This event is presented by Asheboro Parks & Recreation in association with the Randolph County Honor Guard. Tickets are on sale now!
