Asheboro, NC — Due to the forecast for extremely cold and windy conditions the North Carolina Zoo will be closed to the public on Friday, January 24.

Friday temperatures are expected to remain well below freezing with wind chills in the single digits. Most African animals in outdoor exhibits will remain in off-exhibit holding facilities throughout the day.

Zoo staff will report to work as usual Friday. The park is expected to resume regular winter operating hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the weekend when temperatures are predicted to reach the mid-40’s.

For information on daily operational status, the public can call the zoo’s toll-free number at 1-800-488-0444 or visit the website at www.nczoo.org.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, John E. Skvarla, III, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
