Asheboro, NC - Workers at a cereal manufacturing plant in Randolph County are getting an award from the North Carolina Zoo.

On April 4th, the zoo’s general curator and polar bear keepers will present workers at Malt O Meal Company with an award for their minimal packaging and low waste programs.

Officials at the N.C. Zoo have a partnership with Polar Bears International and are one of the organization’s Arctic Ambassador Centers. Workers at the zoo promote conservation of polar bears in the wild, which is done by encouraging sustainable use of resources.

With the partnership zoo keepers identify and recognize local organizations that model sustainability. A few months ago, zoo keepers presented an award to Montgomery County Schools for its broad energy reduction and recycling programs.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, John E. Skvarla, III, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
