ASHEBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina Zoo invites you to celebrate World Oceans Day from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, in the Zoo’s North American region including: North America Plaza, Cypress Swamp, Rocky Coast KidZone, Streamside and Prairie geyser. Kids can help create group art, get their face painted, play beach trivia and hear inspired music by Larry Davis and McCrary Elementary School’s UNITE drummers. Adults can learn about small changes in green cleaning practices that can have a big impact on all the oceans of the world. In addition, the N.C. Zoo staff will host the Run Wild 5k for AAZK (American Association of Zookeepers) throughout the park. The 5k registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the run begins at 7:00 a.m. starting and ending at Solar Pointe. Runners may hear the roar of our African Lions or howling of the Red Wolves along the way. Please visit http://ow.ly/NCH0Y for more information on the Run Wild 5K. Proceeds will support animal care at the N.C. Zoo. Oceans cover nearly 70% of the Earth’s surface and contain about 97% of the Earth’s water supply. Zoo visitors will learn of the impact each human has on this water supply. Everyone can help preserve and sustain our oceans and the animals that inhabit them and help keep all waterways healthy for years to come. This weekend’s events will allow Zoo guests to be part of the solution by discovering green cleaning practices as well as the benefits of walking/running/biking more to get around town instead of using vehicles. World Oceans Day is a fun, educational opportunity to be celebrated at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro.
