ASHEBORO, NC – A Celebrate spring the “wild way” this weekend at the North Carolina Zoo. “Egg-Stravaganza,” Saturday, April 1 and Sunday April 2, is the Zoo’s annual tribute to Easter featuring special egg-shaped treats for the animals to enjoy.


North American and African animals will be treated to eggs both days of the event. Festivities Saturday and Sunday are set for: 10:00 a.m. cougars and elephants; 10:30 a.m. otters; 11:00 a.m. sea birds and red river hogs; 11:30 a.m. polar bears and gorillas; 1 p.m. black bears; 1:30 p.m. chimpanzees and grizzly bear; 2 p.m. sand cat and baboons; and 2:30 p.m. lemurs. 

Zookeepers will give these papier-mâché eggs, made by zoo volunteers and filled with appropriate food treats along with other enticing items, to the animals to enjoy. Additionally, keepers will be available to answer guest questions at many of those habitats.

At 1:30 p.m. both days, a variety of bird eggs will be displayed in the Aviary and an ambassador animal will be featured in Kidzone.

“Egg-Stravaganza” is part of the Zoo’s ongoing mission to provide both mental and physical stimulation for the animals in our care, allowing them to find and interact with enrichment items as well as experience different tastes and aromas.
