Asheboro, NC - The pot is being stirred and the competition is brewing. One of the cooks from last year has already announced his goal to overtake the current chili cook and take home hard, cold cash. Yes, chili pepper green money.
We're talking about the Old Time Chili Cookoff which will be held on Saturday, April 16 in Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro.
A panel of judges will determine who wins the $600 grand prize, the $400 for second place and $200 for the cook with the best showmanship. Members of the public will cast their ballot for the most coveted award of all, the People's Choice. The award not only gives the winner $200, but also reflects thousands of taste buds.
This year, organizers are posting information about each contestant on the Discussion Page of the Facebook address, Old Time Chili Cookoff & "Cruisin' for Miracles" Car Show. "We recognize each cook builds a fan base, so we're going to help them," said publicist Greta Lint. Information about each cook will also be available at www.oldtimechilicookoff.com.
Registration is $25 to enter. The deadline is April 10. Each cook must be prepared to serve 10 gallons of chili. Sampling cups will be provided for each cook.
Rules and regulations are available online at www.oldtimechilicookoff.com or may be obtained by emailing oldtimechili10@hotmail.com or calling Cindy Wilkins at 336-430-8372.
