Tourism board meets in new office

Asheboro, NC — The Randolph County Tourism Development Authority Board of Directors met Wednesday for the first time at the 500 Albemarle Road office building.

Home to the TDA and the Heart of North Carolina Visitors Bureau, the new office houses six of the TDA’s 16-member staff and features a new board of directors meeting room (where monthly TDA meetings will be held), on-site parking and outdoor signage space. The TDA moved from its office at the Historic 1909 Courthouse on Worth Street.

“We’re really excited but there’s more work to be done,” said CEO Tammy O’Kelley. She said the new location offers closer parking and it’s easier to get in and out.

After a brief tour of the facility, the TDA board voted to name the board room the Phillip Douglas Kemp Meeting Room after the former county commissioner who was the liaison with the TDA. O’Kelley said several people had wanted to see Kemp honored after he died in 2018. So it made sense to name the board room after him.
