Join Carolina Bronze in Celebrating International Sculpture Day

Seagrove, NC:  On Saturday, April 27, 2019, the world will join in celebration of sculpture during the 5th annual International Sculpture Day.  International Sculpture Day, or IS Day, is an annual event held worldwide on April's last Saturday to further the International Sculpture Center’s mission of advancing the creation and understanding of sculpture and its unique, vital contribution to society. Anyone or any organization with an appreciation and commitment to the field of sculpture is invited to participate. Join us on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10am-4pm for a day of workshops, food, and fun.

Carolina Bronze Sculpture is hosting International Sculpture Day. We will be featuring a scratch mold workshop and metal pour along with demos in blacksmithing, ceramic sculpture, and shitake mushroom sculptures, as part of IS day events around the world. There will be a food truck available as well as local beer. All of this will be going on in our new, satellite location at the Historic Lucks Cannery in Seagrove, NC located at 798 NC Hwy 705, Seagrove, NC.

Create your own design by scratching into prepared sand molds, then watch as our staff pours molten metal into your mold. Take it home when it has cooled. Watch demos on building ceramic sculpture by local potter and sculptor, Joseph Sand. Blacksmith Larry Cooper will be showing off his skills with a forge. Shitake mushroom expert Greg Bender will be demonstrating how to inoculate logs with mushroom spores and then use those logs to create a sculpture in the Carolina Bronze Sculpture Garden. Small logs will be available for you to take home.

Sand scratch molds are $30 per block and all tools and metal will be provided. Bring your own sand molds and have them poured for the cost of the metal. You can pay onsite. Please RSVP [email protected]  or call (336) 873-8291 if you plan on participating in the metal pour so we can be sure to have enough supplies and metal for everyone that wants to participate.

The Carolina Bronze Sculpture Garden will also be open for visitors. Located at our original location, 6108 Maple Springs Rd, in Seagrove, you can view 25 sculptures in a natural and landscaped area overlooking a beautiful pond. A walking trail loops around the pond with benches along the trail. We have landscaped and natural areas with a focus on NC native plants and trees and have recently been designated a certified native plant habitat.
