ASHEBORO, NC – The North Carolina Zoo is proud to introduce its expanded gorilla troop in their newly renovated exhibit. Everyone is invited to their Welcome Home Celebration set for Thursday, Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

To make room for a larger gorilla troop, the zoo closed the exhibit to expand off exhibit holding areas back in January. The newly renovated exhibit features the zoo’s three-year old male gorillas Bomassa and Apollo, along with their mothers Jamani and Olympia. New additions include adult male, Mosuba; adult female, Rosie along with six-year old male, Hadari.

During the Welcome Home Celebration zoo visitors can enjoy gorilla giveaways, learn about gorillas at a conservation and biofacts table as well as see the newest members of the zoo’s gorilla troop from two viewing areas.

Between 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., members of the media are invited to take pictures and film the gorillas in their newly improved home. All reporters and photographers wishing to cover the event should contact Gavin Johnson at 336.879.7202.

The North Carolina Zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Donald R. van der Vaart, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
