Pots and Paint Event at Westmoore Pottery

Posted on 05/15/17

Asheboro, NC - In a celebration of the diverse nature of artistic creativity, on Saturday May 20th Westmoore Pottery of Seagrove, NC will join six other area pottery shops in hosting members of the NC Plein Air Painters of the Carolinas.  Plein air painters are those who set up outdoors with an easel and paint on-the-spot what they see.  Each of the seven potteries has been paired with a painter.  Members of the public will be able to talk to the potters, converse with the painters, and explore the joining of two very different artistic mediums.

Impressionist style painter Phyllis Steimel from Salisbury, NC will be welcomed by Westmoore Pottery.  Phyllis delights in the colors of the outdoors.  Examples of her plein air paintings of buildings and landscapes can be seen online at http://phyllissteimel.com/collections/44747.  She has studied throughout the US and shows her paintings regularly at several art galleries.  At Westmoore Pottery Phyllis will have her choice of vingettes to paint, from the picturesque pottery shop buildings, to the surrounding rural landscape, to our handmade colonial style cart filled with straw and pottery!

Pots and Paint will be held on May 20th from 9am to 4pm at participating pottery shops:  Crystal King Pottery, From the Ground Up Pottery, JLK Jewelry, Jugtown Pottery, Smith Pottery, Thomas Pottery, and Westmoore Pottery.  Stop at any of those seven potteries and get a map for this self-guided Pots and Paint event.  The event is free and open to all ages.

At this point, the weather looks as if it will cooperate, but since this is an outdoor event, we do have May 27th scheduled as a Rain Date in case of bad weather on the 20th

Westmoore Pottery specializes in historical pottery, which can be seen at www.westmoorepottery.com. It is located at 4622 Busbee Road, just off Highway 705 halfway between the small towns of Seagrove and Robbins, in North Carolina.
