    Caraway Speedway is a .455 mile asphalt short track. Built in 1966 as a dirt track, it was paved in 1972 and joined the NASCAR Weekly Series family. Caraway Speedway hosts a variety of weekly series, several Whelen Southern Modified Series events, as well as other touring series.

    The Deep River Muddogs baseball team is part of The Old North State League, the newest Summer collegiate baseball league in North Carolina. Baseball is at the very heart of the state. Over the years, baseball has evolved throughout North Carolina. In the early 1900s every rural town in the state had a "Town" team comprised of mill workers. Now North Carolina is known for having some of the best college baseball teams in the country. The Muddogs are based at Craven Stadium in Ramseur.
