NC Zoo Postpones Easter Egg Event

Asheboro, NC - Due to rainy weather conditions, the North Carolina Zoo has postponed its annual Easter "Eggstravaganza" event from Saturday until Sunday or Monday.

For many years the zoo has celebrated Easter with a special treat for some of its animals. Paper mache eggs created and decorated by zoo volunteers are filled with special food treats and placed in various exhibits over the course of the day, enabling visitors to watch as animals tear open the eggs and enjoy their rewards. Saturday's event was slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue through 2:30 p.m. Among the animals scheduled to receive the eggs are gorillas, ocelots, elephants, cougars, seals, chimps, baboons, grizzly bears, seabirds, lemurs and black bears.

But due to the rainy weather, which might have "melted" the eggs before animals could reach them, zoo officials opted to postpone the "Eggstravaganza" events until Sunday or Monday, depending upon conditions  that day. Schedule boards posted in several locations around the park as well as a map and schedule provided to visitors at the admission booths will provide times and locations for the revamped Easter events schedule.

The zoo is located on Zoo Parkway (N.C. 159) six miles southeast of Asheboro off  U.S. 220 and U.S. 64. Operating hours April through October are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
