Westmoore Pottery work in HBO's John Adams

A bit of North Carolina will appear in the upcoming “John Adams” miniseries, which HBO will launch on March 16th. The HBO production uses work by Westmoore Pottery of Seagrove, North Carolina to enhance the historical setting of the film. Westmoore Pottery is well-known for its making of quality replicas of pottery from the late 1600s through 1850. For the “John Adams” miniseries they supplied over 60 pieces of redware and salt-glazed stoneware pottery including cups crocks, tankards, candlesaucers, pie dishes, and chamber pots.

“With our knowledge of 18th century pottery ‘John Adams’ was a natural fit for us!”, says Westmoore potter David Farrell. The 7-part miniseries which will air on HBO beginning March 16th is based on the John Adams book which won author David McCullough a Pulitzer prize.

The series stars Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney. The director is Tom Hooper and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are executive producers for the series. Much of it was filmed in Williamsburg, Virginia. Westmoore Pottery regularly supplies work for historic sites and museums primarily in the eastern half of the United States and has been called on numerous times over the years to supply pottery for historical movies. Potters David and Mary Farrell always attempt to supply the type of pottery that would truly have been used in the place and at the time of the historical setting of a film.

In addition to the pottery which David and Mary themselves make the Farrells also supplied “John Adams” with a dozen pieces of historical handblown glass that they sell as well. Westmoore Pottery is located at 4622 Busbee Road near Seagrove, North Carolina and is open to the public from 9-5, Monday through Saturday.
