Posted on 06/14/12

ASHEBORO, NC -It's all about bears at the North Carolina Zoo Saturday, June 16, when the park celebrates "Bear Necessities"-when guests can explore life as a bear.
Saturday's event will feature grizzly and black bears and will be highlighted with keeper talks, information stations and educational displays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
A Teddy Bear Fair will be held outside the North America entrance, where visitors can bring their teddy bears or other stuffed friends for a check-up with zoo veterinary staff.

Radio Disney activities will take place on the North America Plaza from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Also, visitors can meet and talk to black bear keepers at the bear exhibit at 11 a.m. and to grizzly bear keepers at that exhibit at 1:30 p.m.

All activities are free with paid admission.
The ongoing Dinosaurs! exhibit continues at the park through November. Fifteen animatronic creatures representing more than a dozen dinosaur species inhabit a forest exhibit created just for this first-time attraction at the zoo. A winding pathway transports visitors back in time to come face-to-face with the ferocious flesh-eating Tyrannosaurus rex, the gigantic herbivorous brachiosaurus and many other denizens of pre-historic earth. There is a $4 admission fee for this exhibit.

Visitors can get more information on all weekend activities at the zoo Web site: http://www.nczoo.org/.
The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Dee Freeman, Secretary; Beverly E. Perdue, Governor.
