Re-Open House for Randolph County's 1909 Historic Courthouse

Posted on 07/01/11

Asheboro, NC - Randolph County Commissioners announce an open house for the Randolph County 1909 Historic Courthouse, located at 145 Worth Street in Asheboro, NC. This County facility houses two tenants: Economic Development Corporation and Heart of NC Visitors Bureau on the first floor. The Commissioner's meeting room, formerly Courtroom A, is on the second floor.

Work began in 2009 by, primarily, the County's building inspectors. Using these employees saved the County a significant amount of money, and allowed the County, during the economic turndown, to retain these highly skilled, trained and multi-certified inspectors. The renovation project was managed by Paxton Arthurs, Chief Building Inspector. The County's Maintenance and Information Technology Departments were also very involved with the renovations. Sub-contractors and suppliers were recognized at the May 2 Commissioners meeting and are listed on a plaque in the foyer on the first floor. The project cost was funded entirely by the sale of timber at the County's solid waste facility.

An open house for the general public is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. The Historic Landmark Preservation Commission will provide the history of the Courthouse with a tour of the facility.
