Posted on 10/28/09

The N.C. Zoological Society (NCZS) will announce the kick-off of its $2 million "Project: Polar Bears" fund-raising campaign for private support of a $4.7 million expansion of the polar bear exhibit and holding facilities at the North Carolina Zoo at 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 28.

NCZS Chair Mary F. Flanagan of Chapel Hill will announce dollars raised in early giving at the polar bear overlook in the zoo's Rocky Coast exhibit complex. N.C. Zoo Director David M. Jones will explain the project's purpose and scope.

Weather permitting, one of the zoo's polar bear will be in the exhibit with tons of ice-part of the zoo's behavioral enrichment program for animals. Man-made "snow" will also be falling near an "igloo" located at the Rocky Coast as the campaign total is announced.
