Visitors Bureau proud to sponsor new Bush Hill eve event

Posted on 07/30/09

ASHEBORO - The Heart of North Carolina Visitors Bureau is proud to again be a sponsor of the Bush Hill Heritage Festival, to be held this year on Friday, September 11 from 6 - 9 p.m. and Saturday, September 12 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Archdale just off US Hwy 311.

Bush Hill Eve, a kick-off event formerly known as Fabulous Friday, will be held on Friday night at Creekside Park. The new name reflects the Archdale-Trinity Chamber's wish to emphasize the community's heritage upon which the festival was founded in 1986 as the bicentennial celebration of the community once known as Bush Hill.

This widely recognized Quaker festival will this year include Civil War encampment on the grounds of Archdale Friends Meeting, a quilt show in the historic Hammond-Ragan house, heritage music, a heritage meal and much more for a full weekend of family fun.

The visitor bureau's sponsorship is funded by a five percent occupancy tax charged to visitors spending the night in hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast inns in Randolph County.

"It's a way to give back to a community that has been so supportive of Randolph County's tourism industry. We take a lot of pride in being a sponsor of this festival," said Tammy O'Kelley, director of tourism for the HNCVB, "because the Quaker heritage is such an important part of the rich history of Randolph County, particularly in the Bush Hill area where we were granted our first Civil War Trail marker last year in Trinity."

Beverly Nelson, president of the Archdale-Trinity Chamber of Commerce said, "As always, we appreciate the visitor bureau's support and how it has helped us to grow this event over the past several years."

Complete information for the 24th Annual Bush Hill Heritage Festival can be found at BushHillFestival.com or by contacting the Archdale-Trinity Chamber directly at (336) 434-2073. Additional visitor information is available online at HeartofNorthCarolina.com or by phone at (800) 626-2672 daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

"Bring the entire family and enjoy music, exploring the downtown area, and visiting some of Archdale's exceptional shops and restaurants," said O'Kelley.

The Heart of North Carolina Visitors Bureau is the official destination marketing organization for Randolph County Tourism Development Authority, representing Archdale, Asheboro, Franklinville, Liberty, Ramseur, Randleman, Seagrove, Staley, and Trinity.
