Posted on 01/22/20

Asheboro, NC - Elizabeth Smart will bring the story of her journey from abduction to empowerment to the Piedmont next month. Her abduction is one of the most-followed child abduction cases of our time.

Smart was abducted at age 14 on June 5, 2002, and her captors controlled her by threatening to kill her if she tried to escape. Fortunately, the police safely returned Smart to her family on March 12, 2003, after she had been held for nine grueling months.

The city of Asheboro and the Friends of the Randolph County Public Library announced the 2020 Asheboro Sunset Series on Wednesday. Smart will tell her on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in downtown Asheboro’s historic Sunset Theatre.
