Asheboro Downtown Business Association 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Celebration
Posted on 09/14/17Asheboro, NC – The Asheboro Downtown Business Association (DBA) is hosting the Downtown Asheboro 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Celebration on Saturday, September 16, 2017, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro. The event will feature live music, local vendors, food trucks, entertainment, bounce houses, and a beer garden. The celebration’s mission is to have fun with a purpose by raising funds for the Randolph County Family Crisis Center.
On the Rotary Stage in Bicentennial Park, sponsored by the Everything Hemp Store, music begins at 3:00 pm with “The Sounds of Ed Morris”, from High Point. Ed will entertain the crowd with his renditions of German styled music through singing and accordion playing. Then a Charlotte based band named CASSETTE REWIND - The Southeast's Premier '80s Tribute Band – will take the stage at 6:00 pm thanks to G&G Automotive, the Petty Family Foundation, and the Spirit Horse Ranch Education Center. In between music acts, a stein hoist competition will be held on the stage for men and women. In the Stonetree Signs & Graphics Beer Garden, Four Saints Brewing Company will release a seasonal beer to coincide with the celebration, a Bavarian Märzen named AHHHH-ktoberfest (named by Eric Ward of Triad Heating and Cooling). Other beer styles will be available, along with bottled water, with commemorative drinkware provided by Carolina Pharmacy (while supplies last). The beer garden will be family friendly and have some tables and chairs available. Attendees are permitted to bring their own chairs. No pets, other than service animals, will be permitted in the beer garden area. Randolph Health and Absolute Automotive Tire and Battery are providing strolling entertainment throughout the day including a magician, balloon animal artist, a fire breather, and a fire hula-hooper from Hilarious Bits o’ Business and Just “Joey”. Bounce houses will be on-site for those that have more energy than the rest of the celebration can handle. Nine food trucks/vendors will be onsite at 3:00 with foods ranging from brats to burgers to ribs to funnel cakes to pretzels and more. Trucks/vendors are Smokehouse Bistro, Bicycle Burger, Rib Shack, King-Queen Haitian, McDermott’s Irish Pub, Cameron’s Funnel Cakes, Grand Ice Hawaiian Shaved Ice, Apple Babies Gourmet Concession Trailer, and Patriot Pretzels. Close to 20 local vendors will be showcasing their wares, products, and services. These will include leather goods, women’s clothing, jewelry, handmade toys, animal rescues, health and wellness providers, and more. Commemorative t-shirts, designed by Zach Frye of The WEARhouse, will be available for purchase during the event. The other esteemed sponsors of the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Celebration include The Flying Pig, The Table Farmhouse Bakery, Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce, Blase Chiropractic, Poindexter Concrete, and Asheboro Magazine.

About Oktoberfest (in Munich, Germany): The festival, which spans just over two weeks, is held annually in a meadow just outside Munich’s city center. In addition to eating, drinking and dancing, visitors can enjoy colorful parades, a variety of fairground rides, and for those, not themselves in traditional Bavarian gear, admire those that are. Although the festival concludes in October, most of it takes place in September. This year’s dates are Saturday, September 16 – Tuesday, October 3. The original Oktoberfest in October 1810 was held in honor of the wedding between Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. For five full days, the burghers of Munich were invited to eat, drink and be merry, and enjoy parades involving kettle drums and music, shooting displays and a horse race around a meadow on the edge of town. Such a good time was had by all that it was decided to stage the race (and the accompanying indulgences) every year. There has been the occasional pause in proceedings (usually at times of war), but this year will mark the 184th time Oktoberfest is held.
