North Carolina Zoo Requests Continued Help to Find Secretary Birds

ASHEBORO, NC - The North Carolina Zoo greatly appreciates all the support we have received from the public in reporting sightings of the two Secretary birds that left their behind-the-scenes habitat May 26.

The Zoo is again asking for your help as we continue to search for these two Secretary birds. You can help by calling our Hotline to report any sightings (336.879.7610). The last known general location of confirmed sightings were Sanford and Ramseur, North Carolina.

The Zoo is responding to all tips from the Hotline and has contracted with a USDA wildlife services biologist to assist with the recovery of the birds. From our last several sightings, the birds appear to be eating and look healthy. The birds are attracted to newly cut wheat and hay fields as they search for food such as snakes and small rodents.
