ASHEBORO, NC – The North Carolina Zoo will honor a printing and framing company in High Point on Wednesday for its superior environmental performance.

Graphik Dimensions Ltd./pictureframes.com was named the zoo’s first recipient of the Piedmont Triad’s Paw of Approval award, which recognizes businesses that take steps to lessen their environmental impacts.

Media and others are invited to Wednesday’s 1:30 p.m. ceremony at Graphik Dimensions Ltd., 2103 Brentwood St., High Point.

“Graphik Dimensions Ltd. is a prime example of excellence in sustainable business practices,” said Dr. David Jones, director of the zoo. “They lead by example and go beyond basic recycling and energy saving.”

Zookeepers selected Graphik Dimensions Ltd. for the award because of the company’s work to save water and reduce pollution. For example, Graphik Dimensions Ltd. uses pollution control equipment that helps clean the air during the printing process. The company also installed high-efficiency toilets that use less water and put in place a paperless payroll system that saves trees and thousands of gallons of water, in addition to reducing carbon emissions and cutting back on landfill waste.

The zoo, which has been widely recognized for its conservation and sustainability efforts, launched the Piedmont’s Paw of Approval award on June 16. Zookeepers intend to keep the contest going as a way to encourage businesses in the Piedmont Triad to be environmentally friendly.

The North Carolina Zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Donald R. van der Vaart, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
