North Carolina Zoo to host camps for kids with autism

North Carolina Zoo to host camps for kids with autism Camp KidZu

ASHEBORO, NC — The North Carolina Zoo is again hosting day camps in June for children diagnosed with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.

Camp KidZu is for children with high functioning Autism or Asperger's Syndrome who do not require significant behavioral support, have verbal abilities and would thrive in a camp setting. One in 68 children is diagnosed with autism.

Camp KidZu is a great way for children to experience the beauty and adventure that can only be found at the N.C. Zoo. Activities at the camp include: zookeeper talks, visiting animal exhibits, making take home crafts and other hands-on fun activities.

  • Children should be entering grades 1st through 6th    
  • Camps run three days a week from June 9-25 
  • Each camp is limited to 10 campers 
  • A Parent or caregiver is welcome to attend with their child
  • Camps run from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Campers need to bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks
  • Camp T-shirts will be provided to each camper 
  • A comprehensive health form is required prior to registration
  • Pre-registration is required
