North Carolina Zoo closed until Wednesday

Posted on 02/15/15

ASHEBORO, NC – Due to strong winds, freezing wind chills and fallen trees the North Carolina Zoo is closed today. Due to the forecast for a winter storm, which predicts freezing rain and snow the zoo will remain closed to the public on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 16-17.

Saturday night trees were blown down in the park blocking access for visitors. All animals and staff are safe and no exhibits/buildings were damaged. Zoo officials will continue watching weather conditions closely to ensure the safety of visitors, staff and animals.

Zoo staff should report to work as usual unless told otherwise.  If staff encounter weather conditions that are unsafe employees should contact their supervisor promptly.

For information on daily operational status, the public can call the zoo's toll-free number at 1-800-488-0444 or visit the website at www.nczoo.org

The North Carolina Zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Donald R. van der Vaart, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
