Caughron & Holt Appointed to Tourism Development Authority Board

Asheboro, NC – The Randolph County Board of Commissioners have appointed David Caughron as new Chairperson replacing Hal Johnson; and Ross Holt as new member representing the county on the Tourism Development Authority Board. Pamela Hill, Clerk of Superior Court administered the oaths of office at the Wednesday, January 22, 2015 meeting.

Caughron has served on the Tourism Development Authority Board since 1998 and is the third longest serving member. Ross is new to the board filling seat nine held by Randolph County government.

Caughron previously served as Executive Director of the Randleman Chamber of Commerce for more than 18 years. In that role, he helped establish the NASCAR Day Festival in 1988 and was an active part of coordinating and running the event for 23 years. Additionally, he was the co-founder and administrator of the Richard Petty –Randolph County Golf Classic for 22 years, raising more than $250,000 for the NC Jaycee Burn Center and $300,000 for Victory Junction Camp in Randleman. He has also served on the Mayor’s “Retire Asheboro NC” committee and community advisory boards for Randolph County Schools and Randolph Community College, and is a charter member of the new Randolph Aging in Place Council. Caughron served four years on the Board of Directors for Hospice of Randolph County and in 2010, joined their staff as its new Director of Marketing and Development. He lives in Level Cross with his wife, Annette Snyder Caughron.

I wish to continue Hal’s example of dedication to ensure that the tourism industry continues to grow as one of our leading specialized economic development engines for Randolph County,” Caughron told the Board at the January meeting.

Ross Holt, an Asheboro native, has been with the Asheboro/Randolph County Public Library since 1986. In addition to public service and reference duties, he shepherded the library’s transition from paper records to automation in 1997 and migration of automation systems in 2005, and managed implementation of public Internet service. He served as president of the North Carolina Library Association from 2001-2003, and prior to that as Director-at-Large, Development Committee chair, and Constitution, Codes & Handbook Revision Committee chair. As past-president, he chaired the Public Policy Committee. He is an active member of the North Carolina Public Library Directors Association currently serving as president. Locally, Holt served as chair of the RSVP Community Theatre board from 1997 – 2000, and as technical director for part of that time. He was a member of the Sunset Theatre Capital Campaign steering committee, and also served on the advisory committee that helped plan renovation of the theatre. He is a member of the City of Asheboro Retiree Attraction Committee, and a long-serving member of the Randolph Arts Guild Gallery Committee.

The Randolph County Tourism Development Authority Board oversees the operations of the Heart of North Carolina Visitors Bureau and the I-73/74 Visitor Centers.
