John Jessiman, Founder and Director, Cub Creek Foundation, Appamattox, Va
Seagrove, NC - This on-going lecture series is facilitated by Josh Floyd, the Artist-in-Residence at the center.
Speaker: John Jessiman, Founder and Director, Cub Creek Foundation, Appamattox, Va - John Jessiman will present a slide show and talk about his work as a potter, sculptor, and educator. Regarding his own work, Jessiman says, "Throughout my career I have avoided the divisive aesthetic arguments related to “Art vs Craft” and “vessel vs sculpture” but have been interested in the ceramic process as a means to manifest ideas, create form and to invest work with life and energy. The pursuit is to expand the boundaries of conventional perceptions."
Jessiman will also discuss his work as founder and director of the Cub Creek Foundation, a non-profit studio and residency dedicated to the advancement of the ceramic arts. The mission of The Foundation is to support the artistic, aesthetic and technical development of artists through an Artist Residency, offering studio space, kilns and housing for up to 6 residents.
