Posted on 06/17/14

Asheboro, NC - The Randolph Arts Guild is set to host local sculptor Mike Durham in front of the Randolph Arts Guild Shop Friday, June 20th from 5pm to 7pm as a part of the Out and About events in Downtown Asheboro, NC.  Out and About is a casual voluntary marketing effort by the Downtown Business Association to give people a reason to enjoy the sights, sounds, and cultural richness of Downtown Asheboro every Third Friday during the summer months.

Mike Durham is a native son of Asheboro NC, and renowned for his found object metal sculpture. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with additional studies at Arrowmont School of Crafts, Savannah College of Art and Design, and the Archie Bray Foundation.  A former N.C. Art Educator of the Year, Mike taught art in the Guilford County and Randolph County Schools for 30 years. In the past Mike has served as President of the Randolph Arts Guild and continues to be very involved in community arts.

Most noticeably samples of Mike’s work can be seen adorning the Randolph Arts Guild itself.  For the most recent Downtown Sculpture exhibition Mike created several larger than life ants that appear to be crawling over the sides and roof of the building at 123 Sunset Ave.

Friday night Mike will be on hand at the Randolph Arts Guild with samples of his work and available to for casual dialogue about his art and his methods. For more information about call 336-629-0399 or visit www.mikedurhamart.com
