NC Zoo to Close Tuesday, Jan 7th Due to Weather

Posted on 01/06/14

Asheboro, NC — Due to the forecast for severely cold weather, the North Carolina Zoo will be closed to the public on Tuesday, January 7.

With predictions of Tuesday morning lows well into single digits and sub-zero wind chills, the zoo is concerned for both visitor and employee welfare, said Dr. David Jones, zoo director.

Zoo staff will be asked to report to work as usual, Jones added. But employees who normally work outdoors will be asked to assist with any weather-related problems with animal and plant collections. Predictions for Wednesday call for a return to nearer normal temperatures and the park is expected to resume regular winter operations of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily then, Jones said.

For information on daily operational status, the public can call the zoo’s toll-free number at 1-800-488-0444 or visit the website at www.nczoo.org.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, John E. Skvarla, III, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
