In The Devilʼs Courthouse was written, produced, and directed by Ken Comito, but took the collaborative effort of family, friends, and colleagues to complete the project. "The idea for the movie started with a simple formula, but soon blossomed into a much bigger production complete with cranes, dollies, full-body creature suits, special effects, stunts, multiple cameras, and a great cast and crew", says Ken Comito. The movie was shot on location at Devilʼs Courthouse Mountain in Transylvania County in the Appalachian Mountains, Hanging Rock State Park, Jackson County, Trinity, Liberty, Burlington, Haw River, Pleasant Garden, and The Pisgah Covered Bridge in Asheboro.
The movie stars North Carolina talent, including lead actress, Ashley Marie Nelson of Wilmington and lead actor, Dustin Webb of Raleigh. Also featured are Kristen Snider of Nuremberg, Germany, Patrick Ferrara and Anita Martin Richter of Greensboro, Duane Trunnell of Haw River, and John Collier of Burlington.
The movie also features North Carolina musical talent and performances by Dreamkiller and Jive Mother Mary among others. The original score was created and performed by CutshawKane.
In The Devilʼs Courthouse is the brainchild of Ken Comito, Jose Correa, Tim Scales, and Duane Trunnell; all of whom also produced, acted, and performed numerous other jobs during and after production. "We have a really close production team", says Comito. Considering that his wife, two daughters, two nephews, and a brother-in-law were all involved in production, itʼs a real family operation.
The story revolves around two dysfunctional siblings and their fight for survival against a blood thirsty creature straight out of Cherokee lore.
