29th Annual Seagrove Pottery Festival draws crowd
Posted on 09/30/10Seagrove, NC - This amazing event draws pottery fans from several states as this is the one time of the year that pottery lovers can travel to Seagrove and see the largest number of the potters in one location! No back roads to travel, no maps to try to decipher and no time constraints on trying to pick which studios to visit! The event is held at the Seagrove Elementary School located at 528 Old Plank Road in downtown Seagrove and will take place Saturday, November 20th and Sunday November 21st, from 9:00am-5:00pm on both days
This year's festival will include more than 120 booths filled with potters and various traditional craftspeople who have helped to make the Seagrove Pottery Festival one of Top 20 Events in the Southeast recognized by the Southeast Tourism Society. The Festival presents Ann Williams of Fork Creek Mill Pottery as this year's featured potter.
The Festival focuses on the craft heritage of the region. Potters will be demonstrating while handcrafted items from tinsmiths, broom and basket makers, glass blown items, woodcarvers and weavers will also be available for purchase. The Percheron Draft Horses will be on display. Children and adults alike will be able to glaze a piece of pottery and then watch it as it comes out of the Raku kilns, ready to take home as a personal memento of the Festival.
A first edition cookbook, compiled by potters and friends of the museum will be for sale at the 29th pottery festival.
The 29th Pottery Festival Auction has been changed to Saturday afternoon at 5:00pm. This auction draws serious collectors and attracts new collectors who can place their bids on limited edition pottery, made specifically for this event. Each piece will be personally signed and dated by the potter who created it. Sealed bids will be accepted. Bidders will be contacted if they are the high bidder. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Museum of NC Traditional Pottery and its ongoing mission to preserve the history of pottery making.
Admission will be $5.00 per person each day, Members of the Museum will be admitted free as well as
children under 12 with a paying adult
Food and drinks will be available including freshly cooked BBQ, chicken, fresh hot roasted peanuts, hamburgers, hotdogs, funnel cakes, homemade lemonade and more!
Souvenir festival t-shirts, caps and sweatshirts will be on sale. For customers who want to shop without the burden of carrying packages; a parcel check station will be located inside the gymnasium.
Seagrove is located less than 1 ½ hrs from Charlotte or the Raleigh-Durham areas, 40 miles northwest of Pinehurst or 35 miles south of Greensboro, on I-73/74. After exiting the interstate, follow the signs to the festival location.
