NC Zoo hosts Woodland Management workshop

ASHEBORO, NC - The North Carolina Zoo will host the second of four woodland management workshops for landowners on Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24, at the park.

The workshop, "Native Landscaping & Water Management," will present a general overview of soil preparation and choosing and planting native plants on your property. It will also address such issues as care of urban trees and basic information on invasive plants. Solving storm-water problems with plants and the basics of native grasses and wildflowers will also be covered.

The workshops are sponsored by the Biltmore Forest School and are part of the school's Woodland Steward Series. The first of the four workshops, "Discovering Your Land: Basic Land-Management Skills," kicks off at Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury,Friday, April 9, (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and continues Saturday, April 10 (9 a.m.-12 p.m.).
The third workshop, "Woodscaping Your Woodlands & Firewise Management," will be held Friday, May 7, (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Saturday, May 8, (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) at Jordan Lake Educational State Forest, Chapel Hill.
The series will wrap up Friday, May 21, (9am-5pm) and Saturday, May 22, (9 a.m.-11 a.m.) at Montgomery Community College in Troy with the workshop "Stewardship, Recreation & Liability."

Registration for each of the four workshops is $40 per participant, per workshop.

Spouses or other family members can register for $20 per workshop. Credit toward N.C. Environmental Education Certification is available as well as educator CEU and forester CFE credits.

Registration deadline is one week prior to the workshop desired.
