NC Zoo celebrates Teddy Bear Fair this Saturday, June 27th

Posted on 06/24/09

ASHEBORO, N.C.--The North Carolina Zoo will hold the last of four June weekend celebrations of bears Saturday, June 27, in the park, when visitors can bring their teddy bears for a check-up with zoo veterinarians from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

This weekend's bear event wraps up a month-long celebration of the park's polar, black and grizzly bears-and bees, which has included the opening on June 20 of the zoo's newest exhibit, the Honey Bee Garden.

At this new exhibit, visitors can experience the fascinating world of bees. Children can interact with a giant honey bee sculpture and view bees in a working hive-often guided by a volunteer beekeeper.

Also at the bee garden, guests can walk into a 10-foot "skep,"-modeled after a traditional beehive in the shape of a straw basket-and watch short videos to learn facts about bees.

Radio Disney will be in North America Plaza with games and give-aways, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The Teddy Bear Fair is being made possible through signature sponsor Pepsi and by ClearChannel Radio.

Visitors can get more information on this and other activities at the zoo Web site: http://www.nczoo.org/.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Dee Freeman, Secretary; Beverly E. Perdue, Governor.
