NC Zoo offers educator workshops this summer

ASHEBORO, N.C.--The North Carolina Zoo will offer a variety of half-day and full-day summer educator workshops at the park beginning July 13-15 and running through Aug. 4.

The workshops are designed to provide educators with resources, materials and strategies to improve classroom instruction. Through exploration of current environmental issues, educators can learn how to empower students to consider current global issues.

The first workshop, "Wetlands Across America," will be presented by Environmental Concern, July 13-15. Two original zoo workshops will also be offered: "Changing Climate; Changing Planet," (on July 21) and "Gorillas in the Glade" (on July 28). The latter is being presented in recognition of 2009 being the Year of the Gorilla.

Two half-day workshops, "Sharing a Small World" and "Our World; Our Future," will be presented Aug. 4 by Population Connection.

Participants receive course materials and curriculum packets providing active-learning ideas and lesson plans that are easily adaptable to meet specific course, subject or grade-level objectives.

All workshops take place at the zoo.
