Spring Break Showstopper

As winter finally loosened its grip we elected to head down to the South Carolina coast with Little River/North Myrtle Beach to be our first night’s stop. A Spring Break if you will.

On the way, however, we took the time to check out several locations in North Carolina that some Internet research indicated might be worthwhile.

First was to get to downtown Asheboro and marvel at their illuminated mural of an old stem locomotive exiting a tunnel on a wall facing an active railroad track. This excellent work of art was created by an Asheboro native, Susan Harrell, and our thoughts jumped to if Bristol could have her do something suitable at State Street, attesting to how the N&W railroad met the Southern railroad of years ago.

A few miles further south we left the Interstate to search out one of only two remaining covered bridges in North Carolina. The Pisgah Covered Bridge spans the west fork of the Little River in Randolph County near Seagrove appeared well-cared for and certainly historic. Its reported that it only cost $40 to build.
