ASHEBORO, NC — Tie your shoelaces and hit the ground running June 6 for the North Carolina Zoo’s Run Wild 5K. You may hear the early morning roar of the zoo’s lions or howling of red wolves along the way!

The race, which is sponsored by Chick-Fil-A and HealthSource of Asheboro, will take place at the zoo. Participants will run or walk on paved and gravel pathways featuring rolling hills similar to the foothills of North Carolina. The course will begin and end at the Solar Pointe picnic area, where refreshments will be provided for participants.

Awards will be given to the overall top three male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers in each of the following age categories: 12 and under; 13-18; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60 and older. Festivities at the Solar Pointe Picnic area include games for children during the race and a free Kid’s Fun Run after the race. Every child gets a prize! 

Fees: Includes timing chips, free pass to the zoo and a race T-shirt. Please register by May 6 to guarantee a T-shirt! Registration price for adults is $25. After May 6, registration costs $30. It is $35 the day of the race.

For youth (under 18), registration is $20. After May 6, registration increases to $25. Registration for youth is $30 the day of the race. Society members are eligible for a $5 discount on all prices.

● 6:30 a.m. – Registration and packet pick-up begins

● 7:30 a.m. – Race begins

● 8:45 a.m. – FREE Kids’ Fun Run at Solar Point

● 8:55 a.m. – Awards ceremony

The race is organized by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers. Money from the 5K goes towards zookeeper training and professional development, as well as local and global conservation projects such as Bowling for Rhinos, The Kendall Project, Polar Bears International and UNITE.
