On August 18, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, allowing women to achieve the long-fought-for right to vote. For the amendment’s 100th anniversary, UNC-Greensboro's Dr. Mandy Cooper re-examines women's fight for suffrage in “Votes for Women: The 19th Amendment at 100." Although firmly placing the amendment at the center of American’s long & continued fight for suffrage, she also notes that some women in the USA already had the right to vote — & others would continue fighting for it for decades.
