Add to your NASCAR Day experience by visiting the St. Paul Museum, where the Earth Spirit Taiko Drum Band will perform on the lawn. The name Taiko means ''big drum''. Traditionally Taiko drums have been made from hollowed-out tree trunks with cowhide stretched over the ends and nailed with special nails. Taiko drumming began in Japan over 2,000 years ago. It has evolved and continues to flourish in its native country and has become popular worldwide, coming to the U.S. in the 1950s. Earth Spirit Taiko Band performs mostly Japanese traditional festival pieces.
