Celebrate World Oceans Day at the North Carolina Zoo

Posted on 06/02/14

Asheboro, NC — In addition to the sun, oceans play a significant role when it comes to affecting the Earth’s climate. They cover nearly 70% of the Earth’s surface and contain about 97% of the Earth’s water supply.

On Saturday, June 7th, the staff at the North Carolina Zoo will celebrate World Oceans Day.  The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the zoo’s North American region including: Cypress Swamp, Rocky Coast and Streamside.

Kids can ride the wave by enjoying a recycling sorting game, making a bottle cap magnet craft, mural coloring, water activities, an animal painting demonstration by Stacy Lewis and music by Unite Drummers. Plus more activities that will make a splash!

No matter where you live, you have an impact on the oceans. So come to the zoo and find out how you can help preserve them.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources, John E. Skvarla, III, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
