NC Zoo to remain closed through the weekend

Posted on 02/13/14

Asheboro, NC - Due to Wednesday's winter storm and the forecast for additional mixed precipitation on Thursday, the North Carolina Zoo will remain closed to the public through Sunday, February 16.

The zoo has been closed since Wednesday when up to six inches of snow and sleet fell in the Asheboro area. With temperatures expected to remain around the freezing mark until Friday, access roads to the zoo remain hazardous. Walkways and service roads inside the park are also coated and could take staff several days to clear, according to Zoo Deputy Director Mary Joan Pugh. Employees are asked to follow the zoo's adverse weather policy during the closure period.

The public can learn about the zoo's daily operating status by calling the park's toll-free number at 1-800-488-0444 or by visiting the website at www.nczoo.org.

The zoo is an agency of the N.C. Department of Environment & Natural Resources, John E. Skvarla, III, Secretary; Pat McCrory, Governor.
