Asheboro, NC - The Randolph Arts Guild is excited to announce that Barbara Burlingame’s artwork will be featured in The Sara Smith Self Gallery during the month of February. An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, Feb 7th at 5:30 - 7:30 PM. You may also join Barbara for a Lunch and Learn lecture on Feb 28th 12 - 1 PM.  Both events are free and open to the public.

Barbara Burlingame has been creating colorful, whimsical art, and selling her work in over 37 galleries in the United States and internationally since the early eighties. Receiving both her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Purdue University, Barbara focuses on contemporary painting and fun sculptures incorporating paint, handmade papers and found objects to create mixed media works of art that engage the viewer.

Barbara's colorful textures and geometric shapes appear on canvas as an extension of her visual interpretation of natural surroundings. The child-like simplicity of her work springs forth from abstract play with landscapes, animals and people. Barbara's work serves to delight the viewer's feelings by allowing them to see beyond what might be a mere visual experience. It is this mental interplay that distinguishes her work.

Corporations and hospitals have made the largest acquisitions of Barbara’s work with Humana Hospitals purchasing over 200 pieces. Barbara’s favorite ‘sighting” of her art was at a family reunion at Disney World when her own children recognized that the painting in the lobby was their mother’s.

When Barbara speaks of her work she states, "I do what I love, express how I feel, and see what I want through art. As a person who loves textures of all kinds from collected textiles and found objects to tactile information in nature, my art reflects the scenarios of my daily life. I believe many of us experience life in similar ways, but hopefully, I depict life in a visual style that is uniquely my own."

Barbara's work will be on display during the month of February in the Randolph Arts Guild's Sara Smith Self Gallery located at 123 Sunset Ave. in downtown Asheboro, NC.  For more information call 336-629-0399.
